The Saree story

So it's been a fairly quiet day aside from the very loud music while driving in the morning. The weekend is almost here and there's a cards night on the cards tonight. I was thinking about what to wear and I think I will go with one of the two decent churidaar kurtas I have. I don't really wear ethnic Indian wear much ever since I moved to Dubai. When I joined this company the dress code was western semi casual and I remember I had to literally gather an office wardrobe within days before joining.

Sometimes I feel like it's a pity that I don't choose lovely salwar kurtas over formal tops, skirts or the staple life savers we fondly know as leggings. The office dress code has pretty much transformed itself to totally casual and yet I've only worn a salwar kurta when I've forgotten to do the laundry for a whole month and hence was left with nothing else to wear. That reminds me of that amazing Indian thing we call the sari which I cannot drape. I did drape it once and went for a friend's birthday party and most of it fell on the floor in beautiful green layers in the middle of the buffet dinner. A dear sweet lady whose name I didn't ask helped me get to the restroom and drape it back on again. Thank you dear sweet lady. I have not worn a saree since that day and if I could have my way I never will. Above is a diagram explaining how to wear a saree which I know will be of no help to me but I thought if I can help one, just one Indian woman learn to drape a saree perfectly this post would have been worth writing.

U are just too funny! Only u can do something like this. Lol. Cute and hilarious. I love ethnic wear and I have bouts where I will wear only ethnic, which by default means only salwar/ chudidaar kurta and though a dupatta looks fabulous it keeps irritating me by falling off so its very nice if I dont have to wear the latter. Sarees look maha elegant but I have the same problem as u and I have worn them mainly on very close friends weddings' but even though they are properly tied I always have the fear that it will open up and I literally have to take baby steps so that I dont trip over my own saree! That apart though I may have got many compliments on wearing a saree I still feel I dont great in them!

My darling Shilpa I am very sure you look great in a saree and you can carry it off with elegance. And yes I have the same problem with carrying a dupatta so usually I just go sans dupatta and try to compensate with accessories or not. Will post pics of my ethnic look tomorrow and you can give me your sincere feedback haha!

Yes do post the pics! Id love to see them. I honestly without looking at them can say that you wud look nice in it. I often visualise myslef in the complete ethnic look, accessories and all. Iv come close to dressing up like that on occasions but I still have to go the whole hog! I might soon do that one day. My most comfy attire the way I imagine it is a lovely simple cotton kurta/ kurti with a chudidaar or a patiala salwar and nice ear-rings and oxidised bangles to gow ith it! :)You've now managed to arouse the ethnic woman in me lol!
