The aftershave

As I opened my eyes today
A fragrance came through the door
It sounded like the aftershave I dislike
I've woken up with it many times before

I felt like buying a bottle
and singing it all over the breeze
that is freezing my heart
while you sweat in the airconditioning

The presence of your absence
It's still like cold winds that
I cannot get used to

The aftershave is gone. Replaced by a spray that I am sure would not meet your approval but seeks to introduce itself to you all the same.

"the presence of your absence"

The contrast of word choice makes the absence more powerful, like the smell of the aftershave.

Out of curiosity, did you mean

"It sounded like the aftershave"

or

"It smelled like the aftershave"

in the third line?

Parul,
interesting!
the poem seems to be a kind of anti-love-song, with an anti-hero and an anti-nostalgia
or something like that!
(I'm new to your poetry. This makes a strong impression.)
cheers,
d.i.

Ah! I dunno whether to read the poem or smell it? :-)

Nice analogy in the end.
